Solo Legal Counsel/secretary General
Our client, DISTRIPLUS is a Belgium distribution company, acting on the Belgian market under the brands DI, CLUB and PLANET PARFUM, with a sales network of 190 shops all over Belgium and a yearly turnover of 217 mio €. Currently, about 1.100 employees and 15 franchisees are working for and with the Distriplus group.For its offices in Brussels, Distriplus is currently looking for a Solo Legal Counsel/Secretary General.
You will be responsible for the general legal support within the Distriplus group. You will report to the Committee of Directors on group's level. You will be in permanent interaction with the general management of Distriplus and the Directors and franchisees of the different shops in Belgium.
You will built up the legal department within the Distriplus group and provide analysis and counsel on legal, policy and business issues and business strategic planning. You will more in particular:
* pro-actively manage and assist on a day to day basis the negotiating, drafting and/or review of a wide variety of complex commercial contracts (purchase and sale, distribution, franchising, lease, commercial renting and real estate, partnership, licensing, employment agreements, etc.);
* proactively manage corporate and governance issues, communicate with directors and overlook overall corporate housekeeping activities pertaining to the company's legal structure;
* pro-actively anticipate and guard against legal risks facing the company; you will train business people and ensure compliance and appropriate risk assessment on a day to day basis;
* manage overall legal advise in most different legal areas, such as consumer law, e-commerce & internet law, trade practices, real estate and data protection;
* manage litigation and the contacts with outside counsel.
* master in law from a Belgian university;
* at least 7 years experience in a general business law practice at the bar or in a company. Ideally you combine bar and in-house experience;
* fluent in French and Dutch and at least a good operational knowledge of English;
* solid knowledge of Belgian commercial law, more in particular in distribution, real estate and consumers law; experience in labor law is considered as a strong asset;
* excellent writing and negotiation skills: you have the ability to draft, review, negotiate and manage complex contracts consistent with established business goals and legal mandates;
* you have vision and can develop policies and procedures for practical implementation;
* you do not fear strong business involvement both on operational and strategic level;
* you are capable of working independently, be decisive and deliver results in a pragmatic, efficient and timely manner;
* strong analytical and organizational skills;
* you are a good listener
